A question and answer from two unknown authors. Hope the sources listed are good, as I have no knowledge of them myself. That last sentence is called a disclaimer.
Question: “I would like something unique and not slutty but still beautiful. If anyone knows how to make easy at home costumes please i need some tips. I would love to do something earthy like Mother Earth or Mother Nature. I saw some beautiful mid evil looking Mother Earth costumes on line but they are kind of pricey and id be afraid to buy online. Maybe i could buy an earthy colored, mid evil looking costume that isn’t too expensive and add some fall leaves and flowers? IDK Any ideas?”

It was a dark and stormy night….
The rain is pouring, and gusts of wind. The sky is black with hundreds, perhaps thousands of lightning strikes….
A clap of thunder…then another, and another…
The old church clock ticks off the last few seconds before midnight…..nine…eight…seven…six…five…four…three…two…
Scared yet? Well you better be if you haven’t gotten your Halloween costume for that Hallowed Eve only three days hence.
What? You don’t even have a Halloween costume idea?
Perhaps a review of this site will give you a few last minute ideas. So wait not; hie to your nearest costume shop or…….. prepare for everlasting doom….!!!!!

Plus Sizes. Accentuate the Positive!
“Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative and don’t mess with Mister In-between”. Lyrics from a 1940’s song, but the best advice for a Halloween costume choice for a plus size.
As in selecting any clothing, horizontal stripes are out, and vertical stripes are in (that does eliminate the jailbird costumes, though). Also, black or dark shades are preferable to lighter colors.
If one is full figured with a balance, then it’s simply a matter of selecting the right size. If not, then ‘accentuate the positive’. Ala, the sexy costume advice, ‘a little cleavage and a nicely turned ankle oft times is much more alluring’.
If it’s comfort over style, then a loose fitting garment that hides and slims is the better choice.
If it’s style over comfort, then drawing attention to your umm…..attributes is preferable.

Group costumes
We have a group of seven people who want to go as a ‘theme’. What do we do?
Hmmmm…let me think.
Jailbirds. Perhaps going as a group of former CEO’s of large corporations.
A convent? All you need is a Mother Superior and a gaggle of Nuns. It doesn’t need much color coordination. Black and white would be fine. Somewhat similar to the jailbirds.
Not necessarily seven, but there are the ‘Marx Brothers’ (‘Groucho’, ‘Chico’ and ‘Harpo’ for starters; not to mention the two less famous brothers, ‘Zeppo’ and ‘Gummo’).
Maybe Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs from fairy tale land, or the ‘Our Gang’ gang. I favor Alfalfa, myself!
The ‘Beatles’ used a number of styles of costumes over the years.
A policeman, a cowboy, a construction worker….why not go as the “Village People”?
Now, what ideas can you come up with?

Television Shows and Television Personality Costumes
From ‘Mr. Television’, Milton Berle (oh, you never heard of him?) and his outlandish, clownish costumes and makeup to M*A*S*H and its assorted military characters from the Korean War, come another huge category of possible Halloween costume ideas.
There were a rash of Western TV shows (‘Bonanza’, ‘Rawhide’, ‘Gunsmoke’ with Matt and Kitty) and their assortment of western garb, replete with a six shooter or two) in the 50’s, 60’s.
For you futuristic fans, remember ‘Battlestar Galactica’ or ‘Star Trek’? Costumes from these kind of productions might be on the pricey side.
The ‘Addams Family’ and ’The Munsters’ can provide you with several characters each that might feed your ghoulish personality.
A medical smock might be all you need to play a part from ER or Dr. Kildare, Ben Casey or ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
Buffalo Bob, Clarabelle, Princess Summerfallwinterspring are a few characters from ‘Howdy Doody’.
But Howdy, himself might be a bit of a challenge. Unless of course, someone has a wooden head and looks like him. (He was a marionette)
